Spotted Shovel-nosed Frog

A single male Spotted Shovel-nosed Frog was found on Saturday 19th November by Patrick Rollinson in his Empangeni garden in the Grantham Park suburb. The frog was located by its call during heavy rain. This is quite an endangered frog species and unique to the greater Zululand area. Patrick believes they probably breed in the grassland/swamp below the suburb. These frogs spend most for their lives buried deep underground using their strong legs and pointed nose to bury They come to the surface during very wet weather.
